Personal Injury Representation You Can Count On
Personal Injury Representation You Can Count On
Brandon is a native of Beckley, and like most folks from West Virginia, you can get far away from home, but something always draws you back to this magical place. When Brandon graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1999, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served as a Combat Engineer.
"I relished my time in the Marines. The Corps instills the values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment and demands a deeper sense of pride in oneself and loyalty to your God, Family, Corps, and Country. These values carried me through the Corps, and still instruct me in my everyday life as I practice law."
After graduating from Mountain State University, Brandon worked as a financial advisor in Beckley, West Virginia for 10 years. After working in the insurance and investment industry, Brandon never could shake the desire to attend law school.
"After 10 years of working as an investment advisor specializing in qualified retirement plans, I decided to fulfill a lifelong dream and attend law school. I applied and was admitted to Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While in Milwaukee, I managed corporate retirement plans during the day, working on a team of three advisors managing over 350 million dollars, and went to law school at night. My time in Milwaukee was a great period of growth and helped me develop the skills and discipline I needed to practice law successfully. I will always look upon my time at Marquette as a time of growth and fulfillment.
Brandon returned home and has practiced law in Southern West Virginia since 2014. He has worked in real estate law, criminal law, family law, contract law, employment law, personal injury law, and corporate law. Brandon has served as a Mental Hygiene Commissioner of Fayette County, WV, and an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Raleigh County, WV. He has served clients on both the plaintiff and defense side of numerous civil cases. Utilizing his background in the investment industry, Brandon is one of the few attorneys in the State that specializes in handling investment loss cases. These highly complex cases demand a specialized knowledge of FINRA rules, the Rules of the New York Stock Exchange, and SEC rules. Brandon has successfully represented clients involved in investment-related litigation in FINRA Arbitrations and the West Virginia Business Court Division.
"I worked in the investment and insurance industry for over a decade and attained numerous securities licenses, including the Series 7, and have attained the CLU designation from the American College at Bryn Mawr, PA. Few lawyers have the in-depth knowledge and experience that over ten years in the industry provides. My work has given me an understanding of FINRA Rules and the responsibilities an advisor owes to their client. I use that knowledge and skill set to work to recoup losses suffered by my clients."
Brandon has served Raleigh County in the West Virginia House of Delegates since first being elected in 2018. He has served on the House Judiciary Committee, Rulemaking Review Committee, the House Small Business and Economic Development Committee, The Joint Committee on Flooding, the West Virginia Law Institute, the Post Audits Subcommittee, the Commission on Special Investigations, the House Rules Committee, and is currently the Chairman of the House Government Organization Committee. Brandon has passed into law 34 bills as lead sponsor and has sponsored hundreds of bills that have ultimately become law. His position as Chairman of the House Government Organization Committee gives him a unique insight into the law governing the State's agencies, including the Lottery, Alcohol Beverage Control Administration, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the Department of Health and Human Resources.
"I am honored to serve the hardworking citizens of Raleigh County and the State of West Virginia in the legislature. It has been a privilege to have a hand in crafting the laws by which our society is governed. The time I have spent in the legislature has given me a unique perspective on our laws' effect on our citizens and local businesses. I have endeavored to enlarge and protect our personal freedoms, control our spending and taxation, and overall make West Virginia a better place to live, work, and raise a family."
Brandon resides in Beckley with his wife, Brianne, and five children. He enjoys golf, baseball with his children, traveling, and working in his community as a volunteer and civic leader. He is a member of the West Virginia and Wisconsin Bar Associations, the Raleigh County Bar Association, the Republican National Lawyer Association, and the Transportation Lawyer Association.
Josh has kept his law career in the mountains of West Virginia, serving businesses and citizens in various complex legal matters. He has extensive experience in criminal defense, as well as various business contract, and employment law matters.
Josh began his career serving as in-house counsel in the hotel industry as an associate, where he dealt with countless business transactions, vendor agreements, premises liability issues, and all things related to human resources.
Josh developed a passion for criminal law after a family member was treating unfairly by the justice system, and he has focused most his practice over the last two years in criminal defense, and has proven himself to be a defender of the constitutional rights of his clients. “When you look at the history of the world, every country was ruled by dictators, and refused to respect the God-given rights of its people.
There was a period of genius from the founders of this country when they drafted the Constitution. They understood that a government not restrained, and left un-checked, would wreak havoc on its people. I believe we have the best system in the world. It’s not perfect. But, it’s the best. Making sure the government respects the rights of its people is always my approach.”
When not practicing law, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife and 3 year old son. He enjoys hunting big game, fishing, kayaking, and travelling to unique places. Originally from the coal fields of eastern Kentucky, Josh chose to make southern West Virginia his home.
“You know, people from Kentucky and West Virginia are so similar. Sometimes, I forget I even left Kentucky. The people of West Virginia have been nothing but welcoming, friendly, and accommodating
to me.
My wife is from here. My son was born here. And there isn’t another place on earth I would choose to raise my family. I feel like I was always meant to be right here."
